Why we built Pandora's Box

Hospitality operators were running their businesses across four or five disconnected systems. We got tired of watching them suffer and built one platform that covers the full operation end-to-end.

In 2018 the operators we knew were running their venues across four or five disconnected systems. POS for takings. A separate spreadsheet for stock. Rostering in a third tool. Reporting in yet another. Loyalty stapled on top of it all. Every handoff between those systems leaked context, and the owner could never see the full picture without a manual export at the end of the week.

We looked at the off-the-shelf hospitality options and none of them worked. The enterprise systems assumed a dedicated IT team — nobody in hospitality has one. The cloud-POS startups solved the terminal problem and ignored everything else. The legacy platforms had the features but looked and felt like they were designed in 2004.

So we built it. Pandora's Box is a single hospitality operating system — POS, stock, staff, reporting, gift cards, loyalty — running off one database with one login. The first production version shipped in six months. It's been running continuously across bars, restaurants, and venues ever since.

What we learned building it became the template for every OnPoint Group product that followed. Dogfood before you sell. Operate what you build. Pick boring tech that will still be running in ten years. Say no to features that don't earn their place in the product.

Eight years on, Pandora's Box is still actively developed. v2.4 shipped in early 2026 with a redesigned reporting layer and native cloud sync. The product learned faster than its competitors because real operators were using it every night and telling us exactly what hurt.

That's the rule we've never broken: build it for someone you know, ship it fast, keep it in production, and listen.
